unofficial winner?

My friend Rocky Contos who won the K-1 downriver race in 1994 was actually the first to cross the finish line this year. But even though he registered and was given a bib. His name was never entered into a category. He was never asked which devisions he wanted to compete in. He was put in the 13-3 category even though he started two minutes earlier with the 13-2 boats.

He shares some of the blame for not being recognized as he never really told the officials at the race when he found out. He was approached the next day by the official winner, who told him that he knew that Rocky had finished before him and had tried to tell the officials about it.
