9:46:36 PM Happy New Year - last night I went on an interesting bike ride 3:30-5AM in NYC. Stages being set up in Times Square for New Years. After hours gangster parties ending, people on the streets with many blue headlighted SUVs. Fire in an apt building with a dazzling array of firetruck lights (there were no less than 12 trucks, plus all the other vehicles). Many late night stumblers. Electrictians and plumbers working on the infrastructure below the streets. Still ample taxis about. Just before 5am large stacks of newspapers being dropped off at corners with the guys who will deliver them there to pick them up. Post office humming with life - the city is about to wake up and its time to get off the streets. Tonight I'll go for a shorter ride to see the aftermath of NYC's big party.
